This is a shout-out to our wonderful Socceroos. In an upside-down world, where so many are struggling and suffering, cheering for the Socceroos gives us wonderful moments of joy and unity. The Socceroos help fill our head and hearts with green and gold. I love the beautiful game, too much some would say. Years ago, in the throes of labour in a hospital lobby in Lahore at midnight, I was still watching the World Cup semifinal between Argentina and Italy. My first child was born only a few hours later. When my children were younger, no matter what time the game was on, we would watch it live on SBS. We loved the commentary from Les Murray and 'Fozzie'. Sadly, an ACL injury ended my short-lived soccer career, but that hasn't stopped me from rooting for the Socceroos and the Matildas.

It is true what the Socceroos say: no matter where you come from, football is for everyone. It should be true for our country. No matter where you come from, this country should be for everyone. To Irankunda, Volpato Velupillay, Irvine and all the other legends in our team: go you good things. You are doing us so proud.
