National Access to Justice Partnership 2025-30

Luke Gosling (Solomon, Australian Labor Party) | Hansard source
Yesterday marked one year since the Albanese government's landmark $3.9 billion National Access to Justice Partnership 2025-30, the NAJP, commenced. It represented our government's largest investment in legal assistance. The NAJP is strengthening responses to family and domestic violence by investing in specialist service delivery models such as family advocacy support services, domestic violence units and health justice partnerships. The Albanese Labor government has committed funding of more than $320 million over five years for NT legal assistance providers such as Legal Aid NT and NAAJA. These Territory frontline legal services now have the stable funding required, providing Territorians with access to the legal support they need to get a fair go in the court system.
I acknowledge and thank these local providers and the private sector practitioners supporting them for their professionalism, their expertise and their unwavering commitment. It is imperative the NT government fulfils its own responsibilities under the NAJP to ensure that the legal assistance provided matches the increased demand that is evident in the Northern Territory. Importantly, vulnerable individuals, including children, need to be represented in criminal proceedings.
