The opposition will not support these amendments. I have already outlined our in-principle opposition to optional preferential voting. Consistent with that position, we will not support the amendments. I take this opportunity, though, because I have made similar remarks about Senator Day and Senator Muir, to acknowledge Senator Leyonhjelm, and indeed other members of the crossbench, for the way in which they have engaged with this legislation in good faith and during this committee-stage process with amendments seeking to highlight, in what has been a very inadequate process, some of the significant issues and problems with the proposals as they stand.
