I was asked a question yesterday by Senator Wong with respect to the contract for cleaning services at Parliament House—whether it had been awarded and whether I could advise the Senate of the details of the company involved and payment. I have sought advice from the Department of Parliamentary Services and I can provide the following information. The new contract for cleaning services at Parliament House has yet to be awarded. The Department of Parliamentary Services expects to finalise the tender evaluation process within the next two weeks. Following this, a period of negotiation with the preferred tenderer will commence. The successful tenderer must comply with all government legislation, including the Fair Work Act 2009. At this stage it is too early to make judgements regarding wage rates for cleaners. Senators should rest assured that the tender and contract are being managed within the Commonwealth Procurement Rules. The Department of Parliamentary Services anticipates the process will be concluded by the end of April.
