I move:

That the Senate notes:
(a)
that the Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) researchers at Harvard University – the world’s richest university – and the Children’s Hospital Boston have been given approval to begin experiments using somatic cell nuclear transfer to create disease-specific stem cell lines in order to develop treatments for diseases such as diabetes; and
(b)
that the HSCI’s research will be privately funded because the Government of the United States of America does not allow funding for research on embryonic stem cells created after 2001.

Question agreed to.
