The result in Saturday's by-election in Farrer was not just a bad night for the Liberal Party; it was a catastrophic judgement on the Leader of the Opposition and a damning warning about where the conservative movement is heading. It's a seat the Liberal Party have held for most of its existence and yet one of their worst results we have seen anywhere in the country, probably only beaten by their terrible results in my home state of Western Australia in recent elections. It's sending the opposition leader a message that the Liberal Party is no better. But the most telling part is not just that they lost; it's how they lost—doing preference deals with One Nation and stealing their talking points. They're 'One Nation light', and it is an absolute disgrace. Our country deserves better than that.
