I rise to speak on the Building Energy Efficiency Disclosure Bill 2010. This bill will require energy information to be provided to prospective purchasers, lessees and sublessees of commercial office space of 2,000 square metres or more. The bill will create a legal requirement for owners of large commercial buildings to obtain energy efficient information for their building and provide this information to any prospective lessees or purchasers in the form of a building energy efficiency certificate, or BEEC. The BEEC will include an energy efficiency star rating, information about lighting energy efficiency and generic guidance about how the building’s energy efficiency may be improved. I commend the bill to the Senate.
