Sorry, Mr Acting Deputy President, I was actually trying to get an answer to Senator Fifield’s main question—putting aside the rhetorical contribution at the end. I am pleased to inform the Senate that there are transitional arrangements being put in place that will not disadvantage those persons who come on between May and the start of the new combined system in January. I am advised that those transitional arrangements will take care of their interests and ensure that they get the advantage of the new arrangements. With that, I thank Senator Fifield and the Senate for their support for the bill and express my thanks for the contributions to this debate.

Question agreed to.

Bill read a second time.
