Victoria State Election
Darren Chester Gippsland, National Party, Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs
4:18 pm
Victoria is heading in the wrong direction, and we need a fresh start with a team that we can trust to deliver a fair share of funding for our regional areas. Under the Labor Party, we've seen $15 billion wasted on rorts and corruption on building sites. Our road network in regional areas is falling apart, and it's costing lives. It's also costing Victorians a fortune to repair their vehicles. We've also seen an increase in violent crimes, with Victorians feeling less safe in their homes and on the streets. The only way we can change Victoria is to vote for your local National Party and Liberal Party candidates in the upcoming state election. They have a plan to recruit more police and lock up criminals to keep our communities safe. They have a plan to deliver a fair share of funding for our regional areas, for roads and health services. They have a plan to eliminate waste and corruption, a plan to fix the budget and a plan to lower taxes and ease the cost of living for Victorian families. To get the change we need, I'm asking all Victorians to vote 1 for your local National Party and Liberal Party candidates.
The Latrobe Valley has been neglected by a Labor government which has traded the jobs of hardworking blue-collar workers in the country for Greens preferences in the city. How else can you explain the Labor Party's failure to stand up for workers in the energy sector and in paper manufacturing, along with the illogical decision of the Labor Party in Victoria to ban hardwood timber harvesting across the entire state?
There is a better way. In the seat of Morwell we have my friend Marty Cameron fighting for our fair share and working to protect the jobs of everyday people for the future. To get anything done in politics, you need to have a strong team. We're sick of being ignored by Labor politicians in Melbourne who don't understand our community. That's why I'm working every day with Marty Cameron to deliver a fair share for the Latrobe Valley and a fair share for regional Victoria, because, under the Labor-Greens, we've seen jobs lost right across the Latrobe Valley. We've seen crime increase. Our roads are falling apart. The cost of living is out of control. But Labor's answer has been to waste billions of dollars on rorts and corruption on Big Build sites in Melbourne. It has to stop, and we need a change that we can trust in our community.
Marty Cameron is someone who understands our community. He grew up in the Latrobe Valley. He played footy here. He ran his own small business. He wants to make sure the Latrobe Valley is prosperous again. The Nationals have a plan for better roads, schools, hospitals and community facilities, right across the Latrobe Valley. Marty Cameron understands our community, and I trust him to fight for us and deliver our fair share.
