Monday, 26 October 2026 House of Representatives

Mr Tony Burke

Mr Tony Burke Watson, Australian Labor Party, Leader of the House

10:01 am

I move:

That so much of the standing and sessional orders be suspended as would prevent:

(1) the following from occurring in relation to business in the House today:

(a) the Prime Minister moving a motion relating to the Member for Indi;

(b) debate to continue immediately with Members making statements of no longer than five minutes;

(c) at the first opportunity after 1.45 pm, the debate to be interrupted and the House suspending until the ringing of the bells at 2 pm;

(d) at 2 pm, the Speaker calling on questions without notice;

(e) following questions without notice, the presentation of documents and a leave of absence motion, debate continuing until no further Members rise to speak; and

(f) the House then immediately adjourning until 12 noon on 27 October 2026;

(2) the following from occurring in relation to business in the Federation Chamber:

(a) the meeting commencing at 11 am, and immediately considering business accorded priority by the Selection Committee;

(b) after the 1.30 pm suspension, the meeting resuming at 4.15 pm for 30 minutes of three minute constituency statements; and

(c) at 4.45 pm, the meeting resuming consideration of business accorded priority by the Selection Committee; and

(3) any variation to this arrangement being made only on a motion moved by a Minister.

Question agreed to.
