Treasury Laws Amendment (Tax Reform No. 4) Bill 2026; Consideration in Detail
Tim Wilson Goldstein, Liberal Party, Shadow Treasurer

To assist the House, I will withdraw—just as I wish the federal member for Wentworth could withdraw the legacy she has whereby she laid the groundwork for the Treasurer to increase taxes on small businesses and innovative businesses, and now they're trying to cover their tracks. We know that every step of the way the Treasurer has taken support from the member for Wentworth to put higher taxes on her community. The consequence now is that they're trying to find a way to get out of it. But they still go and vote for the substantive legislation in this chamber of 30 per cent minimum taxes on small businesses and innovative businesses. This is going to hurt the future job growth, future economic opportunity and future employment in this country.
This is a legacy between the Labor Party and the strong communities Australia party or whatever they like to call themselves—the teals—that is trading away the future of this nation. It is not something to be proud of.
