Corangamite Electorate: Fort Queenscliff, Housing

Strong communities are built when governments work closely with people they represent. My view is that, if we bring local voices into the decisions we make, we deliver outcomes and opportunities that make a real difference in people's lives. It's why I've established the advisory panel to provide government with advice on the future of Fort Queenscliff. The panel is made up of passionate, knowledgeable locals from a wide array of backgrounds. They bring a unique perspective to the table, which is so important as we move towards securing a better future for Fort Queenscliff.
The panel is already kicking goals. I'm so proud to announce that the fort will host a community market on Sunday 29 November, coinciding with the Queenscliff Music Festival. This is such an awesome win for the panel and the Queenscliff community, who have always wanted greater access to the fort. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank panel member Jane Wager. Jane worked with her market committee to make this possible. Alongside Jane and the rest of the panel, I look forward to continuing our work together to promote greater community access to the fort while protecting its heritage. This is exactly the kind of outcome we can achieve when we bring local knowledge, community passion and government decision-making together.
This same principle applies to the challenges of housing facing many in the community. That's why it's so valuable—

That's why it was so valuable to bring local voices into the conversation at the Melbourne housing forum. The forum was held in the CBD and hosted by the member for Melbourne and the Minister for Housing, Homelessness and Cities. MPs from across Victoria joined the discussion, and a group of incredible locals from my electorate of Corangamite joined me for the event. The forum made clear there's more work to do, but it also highlighted just how important the Albanese government's investments in housing are proving to be for people right across the nation. The Housing Australia Future Fund is making a real difference in my electorate, with more than 400 new homes set to be delivered locally.
So, in closing, whether we're talking about opening the gates of Fort Queenscliff or making housing more accessible, the principle is the same: the best decisions are made when we listen to the people those decisions affect. That's putting communities at the centre of government, and that's what it looks like. That's exactly what I'll continue to fight for in my electorate of Corangamite and right across Australia.
