As a mum of three, I refuse to accept that cyber bullying, misogyny, violent content and harmful algorithms are simply the price our kids must pay for growing up in an online world. Children should not have to navigate an environment designed to maximise engagement at the expense of their safety. Parents should not have to fight billion-dollar tech companies to protect them. That is exactly why the Albanese Labor government's digital duty of care is so important. We are shifting the responsibility back where it belongs—on the platforms designing, operating and profiting from these digital environments. With stronger protections, tougher penalties and greater control over algorithms, we are making it clear that online safety is not optional. Every Australian child and every Australian deserves to feel safe, whether they are at home, in their community or online. That is exactly what we must work together to deliver.
