Aaron Violi Casey, Liberal Party, Shadow Minister for the Digital Economy

When you have a problem, the first thing you need to do is admit that you have a problem. This prime minister and this treasurer refuse to do that. They refuse to admit that government spending is contributing to the inflation challenge we have. The member for Parramatta knows that; the Labor backbench know that. That's why they've talked about it. But, when the Treasurer was asked about his failures, he said:
I'm reluctant to kind of go through four and a half years and give you a sense of what I think we've done perfectly and where we could have done better. But I do acknowledge that, from time to time, you can explain things better, you can consult more.
Well, Treasurer, this isn't a communications problem; this is poor policy that's hurting small businesses, innovation, the economy, families and the Australian people. But this treasurer refuses to admit that he is the problem.
However, the Liberal Party, the coalition, have a plan to reduce government spending—$31 billion in savings to take pressure off inflation and help the RBA bring interest rates down. It is also to make sure that we can fund our tax-back guarantee that will mean, when you get a pay rise, you get a tax cut: $250 in year 1, $500 in year 2, $750 in year 3, a thousand dollars in year 4—and growing. The Liberal Party have a plan to make sure we can make your life easier, fix our economy and get Australia back to where it was.
