They love new taxes—precisely. Bingo! Labor has never seen a policy where it doesn't think: 'Gee, we could tax this more. We could get more money in with our economic vandalism and policies that could help fund the next stupid idea that comes out of caucus.' Ms McCulloch says that the manufacturing sector is amongst the most exposed to the risk of supply disruption, as natural gas provides 37 per cent of the energy used by Australia manufacturing.

So what we need to do is get back to first principles. What we need to do is make sure that through our policies and our work here—and that goes for both sides of politics and dare I say, given the fact that we've been joined by the member for Bradfield, the crossbench as well—we don't just say we've got a future made in Australia but actually put policies in place that help enact that and actually help the Whyallas, the Deniliquins, the Finleys and the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Areas of Australia and not have to subsidise to the nth degree every single sector. Put in place policies that are going to help people pay their power bills without having to open that bill and think: 'How am I going to pay that? Am I going to heat my house, or am I going to eat for the next week?' That is on Labor because Labor is in government. Labor needs to understand that, yes, it's all well and good to have a Domestic Gas Reservation Bill 2026, but it needs to start looking after manufacturing, start looking after made in Australia and start looking after households and people struggling to pay the power bills. It starts with small business, and it works all the way up.
