Why has it taken so long to get the government to secure gas supply? We are a nation with abundant gas reserves. We have the capacity to be able to supply not just our own gas needs but the world's needs. But the Albanese government, at every point, has dithered in their responsibility and taken no interest in a secure gas supply. We all know why. It's because Labor actually doesn't want to use gas.
We still remember the madness. Sorry, not madness—that's being too charitable—the insanity of former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews when he stopped the extraction of gas in Victoria and put it in the state Constitution. That's beyond the definition of an insanity. That's how crazy it was. I see the member for La Trobe here. Do you remember, Member for La Trobe, how, when Labor were in government—oh, sorry, they're still in government, but, I can assure you, with 33 more days, we hope and pray to the Maker that it will end and that the era of tyranny and corruption under the Andrews, Carroll and Allan governments will finally be put to bed for all time—they tried to transition homes out of using gas. They tried to get businesses and industries to stop using gas. Shock, horror—
