Right across my electorate of Sturt, year 12 students at the many public and private high schools and colleges are knuckling down on study leave in preparation for their final exams, which begin on 2 November this year. To all year 12 in Sturt, I congratulate all of you from the bottom of my heart and wish you the very best of luck for the next chapter. Year 12 exam time means year 12 graduation ceremonies are upon us, and it was with great pleasure that last week I was able to participate in ceremonies at Kildare College and Charles Campbell College, where I had the honour of presenting the Sturt Student Leader Award to two outstanding year 12 students.
At Kildare College, the award went to Tiana Filomena, an exceptional young woman who has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership, initiative and a genuine commitment to serving others throughout her entire time at Kildare College. As a respected leader within the year 12 cohort, she embodies the Kildare core values through her integrity, compassion and commitment to making a positive difference within the college community. Tiana made a significant contribution to college life through her active involvement in service initiatives, college events and co-curricular opportunities. She consistently approaches others with kindness, inclusivity and respect and has a genuine desire to ensure others feel heard, valued and included. Her exemplary personal conduct and willingness to support and encourage those around her have earned her the respect of both her peers and staff. Tiana is a wonderful, upbeat role model who represents Kildare with pride and integrity and who has made a meaningful contribution to the lives of others within her community. Congratulations, Tiana.
At Charles Campbell College, another exceptional young woman was recognised. Throughout her schooling, award winner Casey Taylor has actively sought opportunities to lead and support others, serving as wellbeing prefect, house prefect and deputy prefect. Across these roles, she has demonstrated a willingness to take responsibility, represent her peers and contribute positively to school life. Her leadership is characterised by reliability, maturity and a readiness to become involved every time she can make a difference. Casey's commitment to service extends beyond the college, through her involvement with the Australian Army Cadets, where she has been recognised with the Rising Sun Award. This achievement reflects the qualities of service, teamwork, resilience and personal responsibility that Casey consistently demonstrates. In year 12, Casey has also shown impressive organisation and determination, balancing her studies with her Diamond Sports Academy softball program at Seaton High School. Congratulations, Casey. It is so heartening to see the young women in the Sturt community dominate by demonstrating leadership, strength and a commitment to serving others.
