Bonner is a community that loves sport. We're home to incredible local athletes, dedicated volunteers, grassroots clubs and some of the best sporting facilities in the country. Last week I joined the Minister for Sport at the Sleeman Sports Complex in Chandler to announce a record $513 million investment in high-performance sport over the next two years. This is a major investment in the future of Australian sport. It will support athletes across 68 sports, help cover the costs of training and competition, strengthen pathways for Paralympians and future para-athletes, and back more women into coaching and high-performance leadership roles. We heard from Bonner local and Paralympian Hani Watson, who spoke powerfully about what this support means for athletes with a disability and for growing participation in sport.

Today I attended the Commonwealth Games farewell reception at parliament to wish former Moreton Bay Girls' College student Georgia Godwin all the best as she prepares to represent Australia in gymnastics. I know our whole Bonner community will be cheering her on.

Sport is about much more than medals. It builds confidence, resilience and connection. It brings communities together, inspires young people and showcases the very best of our country. I'm proud that the Albanese Labor government is backing our athletes, backing our sporting system and backing the next generation of Australian champions.
