I rise to recognise the service of Councillor Khodr 'Karl' Saleh OAM, who is retiring from local government after more than 20 years of service to Canterbury Bankstown Council and one of its predecessors, the City of Canterbury. Khodr, or Karl, migrated from Lebanon to Australia in 1985 and was elected to local council for the first of five terms in 2004, representing the communities in Beverly Hills, Kingsgrove, Roselands and Punchbowl in the north-east of my electorate. Karl has gone on to lead an incredible career in local government, including rising to the deputy mayoralty on four separate occasions. Always one of the characters of our Labor family locally, his time in public life is a demonstration of service and dedication to the community and to Australia more broadly. Khodr—Karl—thank you for all the hard work you've put into our community for so long. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement from council and congratulations on a wonderful legacy in our area.
