Western Australia: Arts and Culture
4:25 pm
Sam Lim (Tangney, Australian Labor Party) | Hansard source
It is no secret that our arts, culture and entertainment industry has done it tough in the last decade. On top of the neglect from the previous government, the COVID pandemic has hit local venues hard. Live music in our communities is very important for the development of our culture, and our government is committed to supporting it. In our electorate of Tangney, we have helped the West Australian Music Industry Association secure a grant through the Live Music Australia program. This will ensure that their Friday showcase project gets Western Australian artists onstage and more families to enjoy our amazing culture of production. There are 400,000 talented Australians who work in this industry, which represents a share of our economy of $17 billion. Our commitment is to support it with an additional investment of almost $950 million over the next four years. The arts are the heart of our culture, and I'm so happy to see that our government is giving them the place they deserve.
