Budget

Another budget will be handed down tonight. As we've already heard, there will be more promises—lots and lots of promises. We know that some infrastructure funding has already been announced for the Territory, and I welcome that. But we remember what happens when those opposite, the coalition, make promises about infrastructure—next to nothing! I'll use as one example the Kakadu funding that was promised just prior to the last election. Next to nothing has been delivered from that Kakadu funding.

We remember disaster funds. Our hearts go out to our brothers and sisters in those floods in New South Wales and Queensland. But where was the disaster funding? Where was the support from the Commonwealth? We look at places like Darwin and the Northern Territory, which are prone to cyclones, and remember the broken promises from those opposite. We remember sports funding. We remember the change sheds for women who want to play sport and have their own change rooms. Shocker! For example, in my electorate—not one dollar of that money promised at the last election has been delivered. We remember what happens when there are promises made from those opposite. But I can guarantee Territorians that the member for Lingiari and I will make sure that promises are delivered.
