I rise today to acknowledge Northern Beaches local Mr Jean-Philippe Brianchon, and commend his passion for building strong local communities. Jean-Philippe is an experienced IT professional and has launched an app called SwapAnHour, where people can exchange an hour of their time for an hour of someone else's. The app has been designed to help members of the community help each other and, unlike typical gig apps, there is no money involved. Instead, users can bank time. The app is based on kindness and doesn't consider the market value of assistance provided. Whether you're walking your neighbour's dog or providing IT assistance, if you help for an hour, you're entitled to an hour's help.
Jean-Philippe had the idea of SwapAnHour 20 years ago. After witnessing the generosity of his local community firsthand when his partner lost her battle with cancer, he was inspired to finally develop it. The app now has over 1,500 swappers, offering services from energy healing to copywriting. The app also now includes a functionality for borrowing household goods and donating unwanted items. Rather than simply building a business through his innovation, Jean-Philippe is building a community. And we in Mackellar, on the Northern Beaches, are proud to call him one of our own.
