The Treasury Laws Amendment (Prohibiting Energy Market Misconduct) Bill 2018 would have to be the worst, shallowest, most ill-conceived piece of legislation that I have seen in the parliament in my time as a member. Given this government's track record, that is really saying something. This legislation is rushed. It has not been recommended by any parliamentary inquiry or external inquiry to the parliament, it has not been sought by the ACCC, it has been condemned by business groups across the spectrum in Australia, it won't work, it won't reduce electricity prices, it will see carbon emissions continue to rise in our economy, it won't support new investment and it is job-destroying—
