Really, when one considers the big challenges facing the Australian economy, when one considers the choice that the voters in Canning are considering on Saturday—just a few days away. They are considering what is going to happen to their jobs, to the future in Western Australia. They have seen the wind down in the mining construction boom, they are concerned about growth. They want to see leadership that will show the way to a prosperous future that is not simply geared to commodities. They want to see an innovative Australia. They want to see jobs for their children and their grandchildren. And they have, in Andrew Hastie, a candidate who has served his nation as a soldier, but nonetheless keenly understands the economic challenges our nation faces as well as he understands the strategic ones.
