In this bill we have addressed what could charitably be described as an oversight from the previous government. In the budget, the Attorney-General ensured that legal aid funding was not subject to budget cuts—unlike the Howard government, which slashed legal aid in its first budget. Indeed, the Rudd government has already made a substantial investment in legal aid.
