Compulsory voting is certainly a foundation of our voting system, something to be proud of and something that is critical to encouraging people to involve themselves with all aspects of our democratic system. Considering there is a big election brewing on the other side of our planet, I would argue that it is a better system where parties spend time persuading voters to vote for them on policy issues rather than just spending time encouraging them to get out to vote.
