I move general business notices of motion Nos 767 and 769 together:

GENERAL BUSINESS NOTICES OF MOTION NO. 767 AND 769

That the Senate—

(a) notes that:

(i) the Minister for Science has tabled a response to order for the production of documents no. 687, agreed to on 10 September 2026 and relating to the European Southern Observatory, which contains documents released under the Freedom of Information Act 1982,

(ii) in a letter to the President tabled as part of the response, the Minister for Science notes that '[r]edactions have been made where appropriate, including on personal privacy grounds and where material refers to the deliberations of Cabinet', and

(iii) material provided in response to the order which was redacted under the deliberative processes exemption provided for by the Freedom of Information Act 1982 remains redacted;

(b) affirms previous resolutions of the Senate, including the resolutions of 18 November 2024 and 19 August 2026, which reject the proposition that such an exemption may be claimed over material ordered to be produced by the Senate; and

(c) requires the Minister for Science to table the documents sought by the order, with all redactions applied to deliberative material removed, by no later than midday on 6 November 2026.

GENERAL BUSINESS NOTICES OF MOTION NO. 769

That the Senate—

(a) notes that the Minister representing the Prime Minister has failed to comply with order for the production of documents no. 686, agreed to on 10 September 2026, relating to answers to questions on notice; and

(b) requires the Minister representing the Prime Minister to comply with the order by no later than midday on 15 October 2026.

I advise senators there may be further divisions. We'll do one-minute bells unless there's a pairing arrangement request from the whips.
