I move my second reading amendment:

At the end of the motion, add ", but the Senate:

(a) notes that providing Pacific Islander migrants with a streamlined pathway to obtain Australian citizenship would contribute to attracting and retaining the pool of talent needed to address significant labour shortages in essential industries such as defence, agriculture, healthcare, education, childcare and public safety; and

(b) calls on the Government to develop policy options to provide citizens of countries that are included in the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme and who already reside in Australia with a streamlined pathway to obtain Australian citizenship".

I seek leave to make a short statement.

Leave not granted.
