This week we celebrate 50 years of the World Heritage Convention adopted by the General Assembly of UNESCO on 16 November 1972. There are now 194 parties to this convention—nearly all of the countries in the world. Australia was one of the first countries to ratify the convention in 1974, and now has 20 properties on the list. Our government is committed to continuing to support the credibility and continuation of the World Heritage List system, and that is why we committed in our budget last month $14.7 million to support Australia's First Nations culture and World Heritage. We are also ensuring we are delivering $1.2 billion to protect and restore the Great Barrier Reef to 2030. This includes an additional $204 million. That's because, on this side of the chamber, we are not fighting about whether climate change is real; we are fighting for the future of the Great Barrier Reef.
