Commonwealth Grants Rules and Guidelines; Order for the Production of Documents
(1) That there be laid on the table by the Minister for Finance, by no later than 30 April of each calendar year:
(a) all reports and correspondence received by the Minister for Finance under paragraph 4 .12 of the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Guidelines 2017 during the preceding calendar year; and
(b) a summary of the decisions reported under paragraph 4.12 of the Commonwealth Grant Rules and Guidelines 2017, including the Central Budget Management System program title, sub-program, grant activity, grantee, total grant value, grant funding location, postcode, and a brief statement of reason for the decision.
(2) If the Senate is not sitting when the documents are ready for presentation, the documents are to be presented to the President under standing order 166.
(3) This order is of continuing effect.
I just wanted to explain to the chamber that it was the Labor Party who had asked for this motion to be postponed, so that we could consult with colleagues about the merits of the motion more broadly than just seeking to have a continuing resolution placed before the Senate. We needed to do further consultations but, unfortunately, that hasn't been allowed. In light of that and the fact that we haven't been able to consult with colleagues, Labor won't be in a position to support this motion today, even though there may be merit to the motion if we'd had more time to consider it.
One Nation has already supported the Senate in compelling this government to answer questions relating to the sports rorts and former sports minister Senator McKenzie at estimates next week. One Nation feels that it is not appropriate to pre-empt any potential findings that may be revealed during next week's Senate estimates by supporting a motion of this nature.
Leave is not granted. With a suspension of standing orders there's no opportunity to speak to that motion. If you wish to move to suspend standing orders to allow you to make a statement, I have to put the motion about suspension of standing orders immediately. There's no debate on that motion.
