by leave—I wish to clarify a statement I made in the chamber yesterday in the debate on the Great Australian Bight Environment Protection Bill 2016. I wish to clarify that, while there have been no major incidents off Australia's southern coastline, Australia has had one offshore well blowout, which resulted in the Montara oil spill in the Timor Sea in 2009. This incident and the resulting investigations led to the reforms which created Australia's best-practice environmental safety regime regulated by NOPSEMA, Australia's independent expert regulator.
