The coalition supports this bill. Fundamentally, this is a function of a discussion paper that was widely circulated amongst the Australian air travel industry in 2005. This proposal has met with approval of the key aviation stakeholders. Further consultations with carriers like Qantas and Virgin Blue have confirmed industry support. The coalition is proud of its efforts to modernise Australia’s aviation legislation. It supported acceding to the Montreal Protocol and is happy to support the latest round of changes to approve efficiency in the air travel industry to protect Australian passengers.

Question agreed to.

Bill read a second time.
