Child Protection Week

I move:

That the Senate—
(a)
notes that:
(i)
the week beginning 2 September 2007 was National Child Protection Week, and
(ii)
there have been repeated, fundamental major failures by a number of child welfare agencies to protect children from serious abuse and neglect;
(b)
urges the Government to prioritise the encouragement of states and territories to develop uniform laws and strategies on child protection; and
(c)
expresses support for child protection to be made a national priority and for all governments to urgently decide on ways to significantly reduce child abuse and neglect in Australia.
