My question is to the Minister for Industry and Innovation, Senator Ayres. The Albanese Labor government recently announced its plan for a domestic gas reservation. This plan ensures that Australian gas is used to the benefit of Australian households, Australian industry and Australian manufacturing firms first. Minister, how will the government's landmark reform help deliver more affordable gas for Australians and support a long-term future for Australian industry?

Thank you to Senator Polley for that question. The Albanese government's gas reservation plan will reserve Australian gas for Australians and for Australian industry. It will make Australia stronger. Australia is already an energy superpower, and the gas reservation plan supercharges that potential in particular for Australian industry and Australian heavy industry. This gas reservation delivers Australia's energy transition and it sets us up for generations of prosperity, particularly in regional Australia.

This Labor government looks to the future. We know that you can't be for manufacturing and blue-collar jobs if you are against reserving Australian gas for Australians. You can't be for manufacturing and blue-collar jobs if you are obsessed with shutting down the cheapest form of energy. You can't build a future for industries like Whyalla steel if you are frightened of the future yourselves and if you tell deliberate falsehoods about what happened at the Whyalla blast furnace. You can't build a future for Whyalla by looking to the past and being a Tony Abbott tribute band. Tony Abbott was the man who chased the car industry out of Australia all for knights and dames—plus five knights and dames and minus 40,000 blue-collar jobs in the Australian automotive industry.

Now we've got poor old Mr Taylor, the former cost-cutting consultant whose advice to the Australian aluminium industry was, 'Go to China.' Angus Taylor's advice was to go to China. (Time expired)

It's clear that the Albanese Labor government's priority is a gas and industrial policy that delivers for Australians and Australian industry. Minister, why has the government chosen this approach and made it a priority to put the interests of Australian households and Australians industries first?

Let me make it clear that, under the Albanese Labor government, under our Future Made in Australia plan, industry policy is squarely back. We will never apologise for putting Australians first and Australians' jobs first. We will deliver this landmark reform on gas reservation to make Australia stronger.

The real question is: who will stand with the Albanese government and Australian manufacturing to deliver this reform? Will Angus Taylor stand up for Australia's interests by voting to reserve Australian gas for Australians? Will he support manufacturing and blue-collar jobs in our regions? Will the Greens? Will One Nation? This is a choice for the parliament. Will you stand around admiring problems or are you for solutions that will make Australian industry stronger? This is an accurate description of what the government's policy will achieve. It is. A domestic gas reservation will increase the supply of gas and lower the price of electricity and gas. Senator Hanson was dead right. I had assumed that Senator Hanson would be voting for that proposition, except I understand—

Well, who knows where she is? I understand from reading the paper today that she's changed her position. Does anyone have a theory about what might have caused Senator Hanson to change her position? You can't claim to be a battler if you are bankrolled by billionaires. You can't be for a gas reservation and then suddenly against it because your financial backers hate it. You can't claim to be an Australian patriot for blue-collar workers if you're against Australian manufacturing and you're against a gas reservation that will deliver Australian gas for Australian industry.
