On behalf of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on the National Anti-Corruption Commission, I present the committee'sReport on proposed recommendations for appointments to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

Report made a parliamentary paper in accordance with standing order 39(e).

by leave—As Chair of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on the NACC, I'm pleased to note that the committee has unanimously supported the appointment of Deputy Chief Justice the Honourable Robert McClelland AO as NACC Commissioner and Mr Christopher Savundra as NACC Deputy Commissioner. The committee takes our oversight role seriously, including our responsibility under section 178 of the National Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2022 to approve or reject proposed candidates and ensure that appointments to these important roles are appropriate. The committee found candidates to be suitably qualified, bringing a high level of personal integrity together with a commitment to fairness, transparency and public confidence in the commission. We are also satisfied that the candidates were selected through a merit based process conducted by a panel with the appropriate standing and experience to recommend candidates for these roles.

I thank the Attorney-General and the Attorney-General's Department for assisting the committee by providing appropriate and thorough information about the recruitment process and the recommended candidates. I also want to place on record my thanks to the Deputy Chair, the member for Indi, who has played an active role in this committee process. We wish her well in her recovery and eagerly await her return to the committee, whose work I know she is incredibly passionate about.

Having carefully considered the proposed appointments, we are satisfied that we have discharged our responsibilities under the act. We look forward to working with Deputy Chief Justice McClelland and Mr Savundra, together with the rest of the NACC personnel, to continue to build community trust and confidence in this important institution.
