House debates Statements on Indulgence
Remembrance Day
Anthony Albanese Grayndler, Australian Labor Party, Prime Minister
2:00 pm
I agree with both the Minister for Education—who spoke this morning—along with the Leader of the Opposition that 11 November is a sacred day in our calendar; 11 November is not a day for protests. It is a day in which we give our thanks to all those men and women who have worn our uniform in pride, whether they be past veterans or indeed current. Last night, it was my great honour to join many people, including the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, the shadow minister for veterans' affairs and other members including those who have served, at the Prime Minister's National Veteran Employment Awards. It was a great night at the wonderful War Memorial. It was the sort of occasion where our nation comes together in unity and cohesion.
