We on this side of the House know that the housing system has been broken for too long and we're focused on building more homes, including for essential workers and the vulnerable in our communities, and making it easier for first home buyers to get into the market. We're focused on solutions.

Those opposite have been out this week crowing about what they'll cut if they ever get back into government, and one of the things they've said they'll cut is the Housing Australia Future Fund, a fund that is building more than 55,000 social and affordable homes. That's homes for essential workers, like teachers and nurses, for women and children fleeing family violence and for our veterans. Those opposite built just 373 social homes in their nine years in government. That's a dismal record. We've already built more than 8,000 homes, with 22,000 more in planning and construction right across the country, and we've just approved another 5,600 homes. Those opposite have said that they'll cut the five per cent deposit scheme, a scheme that has helped more than 100,000 first home buyers get into a home of their own. Those opposite have said that they'll repeal reforms to the tax system and give property investors advantages first home buyers don't have. We're making things easier for first home buyers, not harder, while directing capital towards building more homes. Those opposite would seek to end the real progress we're making. They're against building more social and affordable homes, and they're against reform that will help Australians realise the dream of homeownership. (Time expired)
