Bob Katter Kennedy, Katter's Australian Party

I asked people, 'What would you do if you were the boss of Australia?' Out of the around 300 people I asked, only three didn't mention that they were finding it hard to make ends meet. There is a great wave of hatred of the Labor Party and of the Prime Minister. When you've been in politics as long as I have, you know that it occurs when people are really hurting. They will turn on you. If you're in government—well, too bad. It may not be your fault, but the fact is they're going to blame you. The Great Depression was a great example of that.

It is so easy to fix it up. The biggest import item—it's far and away three times bigger than anything else—is petrol. We are self-sufficient in petrol, because we are one of the four biggest exporters of grain and sugar in the world. Brazil is on 60 per cent ethanol, America is on 16 per cent ethanol and Australia is on nil. We export $60,000 million—that's $10,000 out of the pocket of every family in Australia, going overseas to buy petrol. We export our oil for $8,000 million. We import our petrol for sixty— (Time expired)
