I have been out doorknocking in the Palmyra and Kardinya areas in the last few weeks. I have had some very good conversations with constituents, and I want to thank everyone who opened their door and welcomed me into their home. I spoke with one young couple who told me about the reduction in their HECS debts. Together, they had $12,000 wiped from their loans after our government's action last year. Other families talked to me about the Booragoon Medicare urgent care clinic. This Medicare urgent care clinic has been very popular in Tangney, and there have been more than 10,000 visits since it was first opened in February. Tangney's residents have saved more than $23.3 million on cheaper medications, while the bulk-billing rate in Tangney is now 72.9 per cent. Tangney now has 18 bulk-billing GP clinics, double the number from before our changes. I'm grateful to have been welcomed into so many homes for a cup of coffee and to have important discussions about education, the cost of living and Medicare as well as to speak about concerns in our community about our unity and harmony.

The Bicton-Fremantle RSL recently secured a $50,000 grant as part of our government's Veteran Wellbeing Grants Program. The grant will be used to create an accessible community garden and family wellbeing space to address the needs of veterans in the area who are experiencing social isolation, reduced mobility and mental health challenges. It is also an opportunity to engage with young people and families.

In Kardinya, the Kardinya Bowling Club recently completed its AV upgrades as part of the last round of Tangney's Stronger Communities Programme. I'm very proud to have supported this local bowling club that has been part of the Tangney community since 1988. The new upgrades will provide an opportunity for the club and other sporting clubs in the surrounding area and the wider community to utilise the club's rooms for events and social gatherings to build stronger community connections. The new equipment has already been used for a kids' movie night. The club and community groups are looking at what kinds of events they can host to keep serving the Tangney community. For both clubs, I want to thank all the volunteers who are working so hard to make our Tangney community even better.

Two new supported independent living homes in Riverton were recently completed, with almost $1.6 million in funding from the federal government. These fully accessible homes are a result of a partnership between the federal government and the WA state government, with Uniting WA constructing these three-bedroom homes with capacity for up to six residents. Each home has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, communal indoor and outdoor living areas and onsite overnight assistance facilities. These homes exceed the silver level of Livable Housing Australia design standards and achieve a minimum five-star NatHERS energy rating. These homes are important, as they also provide the security, comfort and dignity of housing to some of the most vulnerable people in our community. At the opening celebration, I spoke with Aaron, who is really looking forward to being in his new home. We had a great conversation about how this home includes important modifications, such as an adjustable kitchen sink and kitchen counter that can be accessed from different heights. I am so excited for Aaron to be in his new home, and I wish him and all the new residents all the very best.
