Today I rise to acknowledge three outstanding members of the Bonner community who have been recognised in the 2026 King's Birthday honours. These honours recognise Australians who have made an extraordinary contribution to their communities through service, leadership and dedication to others.
This year Bonner is proud to celebrate Susan Bamford OAM, recognised for her outstanding service to netball as a life member of Netball Queensland. Susan's dedication to the sport has left a lasting impact on generations of players, volunteers and families.
We also celebrate Cornelius Steenland OAM, recognised for his service to youth and sailing through his work with the iconic sail training ship, the South Passage. His efforts have helped young Australians build confidence, resilience and valuable life skills. On a personal note, as someone who has sailed on the South Passage, can I say it is a wonderful experience for young people, and we really recognise his efforts.
And last but certainly not least is David Westlake OAM, whose dedicated service to the Wynnum Manly community includes volunteering with the Wynnum Manly & Districts Men's Shed, serving as a Justice of the Peace and driving for the Lota Police Club school bus program since 1996. His commitment to helping others has touched countless lives across our community. I congratulate them all on this wonderful honour.
