Men's shed have been around in our communities for 30 years. They are an Australian first, started as a way to improve men's health and wellbeing. They have extended to all sorts of activities. Their workshops include craft, metal, woodworking, cooking and more. Perhaps the most valuable contribution is that they are a common space for men and women to come together and bond over shared interests. The impact on mental health of more than 1,200 sheds across the country has been extensively documented. We have even exported them abroad, and over 2,000 sheds operate in countries like the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Greece.

In our electorate of Tangney, the Melville shed provides many opportunities for training and leisure for our local communities. I recently visited the facility to celebrate their one-year anniversary, talk to the members of our community and learn about the impact these men's sheds have on their lives. I'm proud of the work they do for our local communities, and I'm hoping we can work together to support this amazing space.
