Our hearts go out to all involved in the fatal aircraft incident last Friday at the Caboolture Airfield, located in the Longman community. It's a devastating time not only for the family and friends of the deceased but also for the paramedics, emergency service personnel, ground crew and survivor of the other aircraft. Husband and wife, David and Jan Maddern, sadly perished in this incident. David was a retired commercial pilot who had worked for Emirates and even TAA back in the day, and his wife spent over 25 years as a yoga instructor and fitness author in Dubai. Both were in their 60s, embarking on take-off in a light aircraft when they collided with another aircraft, whose pilot, thankfully, remained uninjured.
The Caboolture Airfield is a small airfield, but it is a tight family of aviation enthusiasts. It is operated by the Caboolture Aeroclub and is home to the Caboolture Warplane Museum, Caboolture Gliding Club and Caboolture Microlights, as well as numerous aviation training, service, repair and restoration businesses and not-for-profits. Everyone associated with these organisations will be feeling the trauma of this tragedy, and as a community we offer our sincerest condolences to them and the families and friends of David and Jan as well as the surviving pilot of the other aircraft. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May David and Jan both rest in peace.
