I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate the local sporting champions and local para champions in my electorate of Forrest who were recently awarded funding for their sporting endeavours through the Local Sporting Champions grants. We had six champions from the Margaret River region, four from the greater Bunbury region, three from Burekup, three from Busselton and one para-athlete from Bunbury. Each local sporting champion was awarded $750, and our para-athlete was rewarded $1,000.

The sports the champions are competing in include cycling, surfing, softball, soccer, gymnastics, darts and swimming. Three competed in the Gravity Enduro National Championships in Victoria, one competed in the Futsal national youth championships in Victoria, eight competed in the Australian national junior surfing championships in Queensland, two competed in Softball Australia's shield in Victoria as well, one competed in Gymnastics Australia's clubs carnival in Queensland and one competed in junior darts, also in Queensland. Our para-champion competed in the Virtus Oceania Asia games.

This is a fabulous program. I want to thank and acknowledge the families that help these young athletes to achieve their best. They are very grateful for every cent that comes out of the Local Sporting Champions grant program.
