Cottesloe Beach is one of the most well-known beaches in Perth. It features on postcards, it plays host to the annual Sculpture by the Sea exhibition and the iconic Rottnest Channel Swim, and even the Beach Boys performed there in 2004. Cottesloe is a destination for locals, regional visitors and international tourists all year round and is a key contributor to the WA economy through tourism. It is one of the most accessible beaches in metropolitan Perth, being within 800 metres of the train station. However, its amenities, accessibility and foreshore features have not had a significant upgrade in the past few decades. This is why I am working with the local council, the Town of Cottesloe, and supporting their vision to address several infrastructure gaps and improve Cottesloe Beach.

I must stress that the proposed upgrades don't just benefit the local residents of Cottesloe; there are huge benefits which flow to WA and Australia more broadly. Because of this, I do not believe that the costs of the plan and the vision should be borne solely by the residents of Cottesloe. That is why I am calling on my federal colleagues and our government to support this project and help to deliver a vibrant, enticing and accessible key destination for locals and visitors from across Perth, Australia and internationally.
