Last Wednesday evening, my beautiful wife and I had the pleasure of attending the 2021 North Queensland and Northern Territory Restaurant & Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence, at the Reef Casino in Cairns. It was a sold-out event, with some 190 guests, in what everyone in the tourism and hospitality business feels has been the hardest year that we've had in business. The trials and tribulations were reflected upon, but the determination and passion for food and creating mouth-watering dishes overshone the past 18 months. I'd like to congratulate the winners in their specialist categories: the Temple of Tastes restaurant, in Palm Cove; Guyala Cafe; Cbar Restaurant and Bar, which won two awards; Bridgewater Q; Salsa Bar & Grill; Wolf One Food & Wine; Wild Thyme restaurant; Il Chiosco; CC's Bar and Grill by Crystalbrook, which won two awards; Match Restaurant & Grill, Cowboys Leagues Club; Tha Fish; Seabean Tapas Bar and Restaurant; Chrisco, which was named the Personal Chef and Caterer of the Year; Civeo Village; and Phat Mango, which also took out two awards. It was the first time that these awards have been held in North Queensland in 10 years, and the Restaurant and Catering Industry Association was really excited to reunite the industry in our region. Congratulations and well done to everybody involved.
