You will have noted that there has been some increased interest in petitioning of late. This interest has also seen an increase in civic engagement in petitioning, which the committee warmly welcomes.

The committee is aware of its responsibility to provide an open and accessible petitioning system, and we are committed to ensuring this. We are also aware that some improvements could be made to the current system so that all users have the best possible experience, whether they are creating or signing a petition, or just looking for information.

Citizens will therefore be pleased to know that a project is underway to increase the capacity of the e-petitioning system to better handle peaks in user engagement and to improve the accessibility of petitioning information more generally.
