It was my great pleasure to attend the opening of Ulverstone Red Cross's new multipurpose ramp facility recently. Funded through the federal government's Stronger Communities Program, the ramp was named the 'Maisie Pyke access ramp' in honour of a local resident named Maisie. Maisie was the guest of honour at the launch and fittingly stole the show. Maisie is 100 years young. Maisie's Red Cross membership dates back to 1940, cutting and sewing clothing for Australian soldiers during World War II. Since those days, she hasn't stopped contributing to all aspects of the Red Cross, including assisting with fundraising events and helping those in need within her local community. And there's no stopping Maisie. She still attends meetings and operates the Red Cross's produce tables at Ulverstone, an institution where local members sell their jams, sauces, cakes, vegetables and plants. Everyone at the opening was united in their praise of Maisie and her remarkable contribution to her local community.

Congratulations to the Red Cross north-west regional manager, Ian Waller, the president, Colleen Day, immediate past president, Jo Common, and all the members, families and friends who've contributed to the Red Cross over the years. Finally, I say to Maisie, thank you for everything that you have done, and I look forward to catching up with you on your 101st birthday.
