I rise today to acknowledge Hardy Shum, the president of the Chinese senior citizens club in Menzies, who was recently awarded Citizen of the Year in the city of Manningham. I have known Hardy for many, many years. Indeed, he's been the president of the Chinese senior citizens club for about 15 years now. Each week, the Chinese senior citizens club has a meeting in Manningham. It's attended by hundreds of people. I was delighted to be there just a few weeks ago to enjoy the celebrations of the Dragon Boat Festival and also the Mother's Day luncheon amongst the Chinese senior citizens. It was also my pleasure to present to Hardy and his committee on Australia Day one of the flags that fly in this chamber, which you, Mr Speaker, make available to all members of this place. Each year I present one on Australia Day to one of the community groups, and this year it was my pleasure to give it to the Chinese senior citizens club. It is amongst many other ethnic senior citizens clubs in my electorate that do a wonderful job in providing a community for so many of the citizens of Manningham and of Menzies. I congratulate Mr Shum for his great work and look forward to continuing a great association with the club.
