I rise to speak briefly on a matter that is located outside my electorate but which has struck a nerve in my community because of the potential impacts that would be seen right across the Central Coast. The Wallarah 2 proposal is now before the Commonwealth government for a decision on whether or not it can be approved under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. The decision is currently expected by 7 March, but I met with the Minister for the Environment and Energy in Canberra recently to pass on many of the concerns on behalf of my community. I continue to encourage anyone with interest in the proposal to contact me. I've also facilitated a meeting with the minister and the Australian Coal Alliance, which happened this afternoon.

This is a government that is willing to listen on this issue. My position has been clear and consistent: I do not support any project that is scientifically proven to be detrimental to the Central Coast's water supply.
