New England Electorate, Bennelong Electorate; Issue of Writ

I thank the Clerk. I inform the House that on 27 October 2017 I issued a writ for a new election for the electoral division of New England, in the state of New South Wales, the Court of Disputed Returns having declared the Hon. Barnaby Joyce disqualified. The dates in connection with the new election were fixed as follows: close of rolls, Friday, 3 November; date of nominations, Thursday, 9 November; date of polling, Saturday, 2 December; return of writ, on or before Sunday, 4 February 2018.

I also inform the House that, on 11 November, I received a letter from John Gilbert Alexander resigning his seat as the member for the electoral division of Bennelong and that, on Monday 13 November 2017, I issued a writ for an election to fill that vacancy. The dates in connection with the by-election were fixed as follows: close of rolls, Monday, 20 November; date of nominations, Thursday, 23 November; date of polling, Saturday, 16 December; return of writ, on or before Wednesday, 21 February 2018.
